the rock n roll photographer
jim marshall passed away last week
in his new york city hotel room at age 74
you may not know the name jim marshall
but you have most likely seen some of his photography
hes photographed iconic bands and musicians such as
the beatles, the rolling stones, miles davis, and jim morrison

jimi hendrix spraying lighter fluid onto his flaming guitar
at monterey international pop festival in 1967

ray charles

probably the most famous photograph of johnny cash

johnny cash at folsom prison

bob dylan

his ability of naturally capturing musicians on and off stage was unparalleled
you are an inspiration to me
rest in peace

radvertisments
it blows my mind how creative some people are
here are a couple of my favorite ads ive stumbled upon

“Advertising is the art of making whole lies out of half truths.”

a lollipop rip on the marlboro man

“I have always believed that writing advertisements is the second most profitable form of writing. The first, of course, is ransom notes...”

"If advertisers spent the same amount of money on improving their products as they do on advertising then they wouldn't have to advertise them."

hair, teeth or curiosity?

“You can fool all the people all the time if the advertising is right and the budget is big enough.”

“Advertising is the art of convincing people to spend money they don't have for something they don't need.”

american nightmare

“The caterpillar does all the work but the butterfly gets all the publicity”

real talk

heres an ad i made for some fictional juice company in one of my design classes last semester. i thought it was kinda sweet

birthday cards dont all have to be lame and boring

i would be way more psyched if he was staring at that chick and just grinning at her

indeed

“The man who stops advertising to save money is like the man who stops the clock to save time”

apparently this is one of the most famous marketing campaigns of all time. lucky strike paid the biggest dude in the industry what would be close to a million dollars now to revamp their logo and all he did was put a black outline on it. i dont know i guess its sweet

i would think this is brilliant, but ive put together a dresser from ikea before and that shit made me not want to live anymore

third leggin it

“I do not read advertisements - I would spend all my time wanting things”- franz kafka

“Advertising: the science of arresting the human intelligence long enough to get money from it.”

“Advertising is legalized lying.”-hg wells

sick cut mate

reminds me of risbergs toll collectors theory

and then you got ads like these that just blow the rest out of the water

philly in black and white
a lot of these are old film shots i took probably 2 years ago
and the rest i took last week when i was down there
click on the photos to enlarge them

a few hours later we watched 4 kids get arrested on this street from justins window. also, that woman in the distance bugged out a bit about being in the picture until i explained she was the size of a pea, she was too hood to care.

an owl coolin at trash city near south street

mexican jumping bean(film)

this building depresses the shit out of me. it used to be one of the most renowned, upscale apartment complexes in philly, now its inhabited by squatters and covered in graffiti, but the graffiti is pretty sick actually. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divine_Lorraine_Hotel

some fake flowers outside justins place

film

crab people lurking under the ben franklin bridge(film)

dirty negatives(film)

my favorite(film)
special thanks to karen for scanning my negatives up for me free of charge

jonathan levine gallery
i went into chelsea the other day to check out this street art exhibit. the building wound up being like 12 stories just full of galleries. ran into some wild stuff there.(click on the pictures to see the bigger image)

holland tunnel

weirdest thing of the day. one of the first things we saw after we parked the car

rubiks cubes

jonathan levine gallery. peep the shepard fairey piece in the back. i really liked all the pieces there but the shepard fairey one was especially rad

skate or die

i can only say dont touch anything so many times

this was real sick. there was a camera or sensor in the middle and the shingles would move accordingly. pretty crazy

favorite picture of the day
